AAM and BBPOM Bandar Lampung Lead Joint Commitment as Pharmacists Unite Against Antimicrobial Resistance

Amid the growing global threat of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), the commitment of pharmacy professionals plays a critical role in ensuring the rational and responsible use of antibiotics.
In response to this challenge PT Anugrah Argon Medica (AAM) Bandar Lampung Branch, collaborated with the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BBPOM) in Bandar Lampung to organize a Technical Guidance Program for Pharmacists in Charge of Pharmacies on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
The program brought together 53 Pharmacists in Charge of Pharmacies from across Lampung Province and focused on two strategic priorities: the control of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and raising awareness of the misuse of Specific Controlled Medicines. These efforts form part of a broader initiative to strengthen the safe, rational, and compliant use of medicines.
As a demonstration of their shared commitment to combating AMR, the program concluded with the signing of a Joint Commitment Declaration by participating pharmacists. The declaration symbolizes the strong collaboration among regulators, professional associations, pharmaceutical distributors, and pharmacy professionals in promoting responsible antibiotic use and enhancing the quality of pharmaceutical services for the community.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Bagus Heri Purnomo, S.Si., Apt., Head of BBPOM Bandar Lampung, expressed his appreciation to PT Anugrah Argon Medica for initiating an educational forum that supports the continuous improvement of pharmaceutical services in Indonesia.
He emphasized that antimicrobial resistance remains one of the world's most pressing public health challenges and requires coordinated action from all stakeholders. Irrational antibiotic use accelerates the emergence of antimicrobial resistance, making pharmacists' role increasingly vital in ensuring that antibiotics are prescribed and dispensed according to appropriate indications, correct dosages, and valid medical prescriptions.
In addition to discussions on AMR control, participants also received training on preventing the misuse of Specific Controlled Medicines (OOT) as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen medicine distribution oversight and improve compliance with pharmaceutical service regulations.
Head of AAM Bandar Lampung Branch Mr. Fernando Sibarani highlighted that improving healthcare quality depends not only on the availability of healthcare products but also on the competence of healthcare professionals responsible for distributing and dispensing medicines to patients.
The event was also attended by Mrs. Nensia Tarigan, S.Si., Apt., M.Kes., Head of Human Resources Division of the Bandar Lampung City Health Office, representatives of the Indonesian Pharmacists Association (IAI) Bandar Lampung Branch, Mr. Awy Tedja, Regional Operations Manager of PT Anugrah Argon Medica, and representatives from BBPOM Bandar Lampung.

Through its ongoing collaboration with BPOM and professional organizations across Indonesia, PT Anugrah Argon Medica continues to support the professional development of pharmacy practitioners through relevant, collaborative educational programs.
